The working principles of cold header machine is the forming method of part’s head of bar or wire at room temperature.
In china fastener industry,the cold heading machine generally consists of transmission unit,forming unit, transfer finger unit, wire feeding unit and kickout unit. see figure-1
Inside the tooling area of the cold header machine, the cutoff blank is formed between a die and a punch block, pushing the material of the cutoff into the die to create the wanted shape. With the forming method, the punch block forces the material out of the die to produce a head larger than the cutoff.
Cold heading is mainly used to manufacture bolts, nuts, nails, rivets, steel balls and other parts. The forming blank materials could be copper, aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and titanium alloy, and the material utilization rate can reach up to 80 ~ 90%.
Cold heading is mostly carried out on a special fastener machine with tooling, which is convenient to realize continuous, multi steps and automatic production. The cold forming machine can sequentially finish the progressions of cutting, heading, shaping, chamfering, diameter reduction and edge cutting. The production efficiency is high, up to more than 300 pieces / min, and the diameter of the maximum cold heading part is 48 mm.
